Spring season 2021

The Tomball Kings will field multiple teams for the Spring 2021 baseball season, providing a competitive baseball opportunity and challenge for players from the 5U playing age through high-school ages. Our Spring 2021 teams will include:

  • High school (varsity and sub-varsity schedules)
  • 15U (red and blue teams)
  • 12U (red and blue teams)
  • 10U (kid pitch for playing ages 9U to 10U)
  • 8U (coach pitch for playing ages 5U to 8U)

The Kings high school program features competition with public school, private school, interscholastic club, and other homeschool teams at the varsity and sub-varsity levels.

Our 15U and 12U teams compete in Spring Klein Baseball’s spring league, each with twelve regular-season games followed by a playoff-tournament opportunity. 15U players will also have a small number of interscholastic contests.

Our 10U and 8U teams compete in The Farm League’s spring league, each with a ten-game regular season followed by a playoff opportunity.

Eligibility

Participation on all Kings teams for the Spring 2021 season is by invitation only, based upon coaching evaluations from our open tryouts, an individually-scheduled tryout, or the Fall 2020 season. Maintenance of eligibility requires compliance with Tomball Kings program rules. We remain open to new players for the Spring 2021 season. To schedule tryout, please complete our tryout registration form.

Registration

All players who have received and accepted a roster invitation for a Tomball Kings Spring 2021 team should compete our player information form and related registration requirements.

Calendar notes

Playing spring baseball with the Tomball Kings is a significant time commitment that requires accommodation of frequent schedule changes due to inclement weather. We always schedule as far in advance as possible and promptly inform players of any schedule changes.

We operate in a youth and interscholastic baseball market that is among the most competitive anywhere. We expect players to be available to practice or play Monday through Saturday from the beginning to the end of the season. Players of 10U and 8U age should expect occasional games on Sunday afternoons commencing after 1:30 PM.

High school players should normally expect five team events per week. 15U and younger players should normally expect three team events per week.

In keeping with customary practice for high school baseball teams in Texas, the high school team will never practice or play on Sunday. The 15U and 12U teams may participate in an end-of-season tournament requiring play on one Sunday — they will otherwise never practice or play on Sunday. As noted above, players in the 10U and 8U age groups may have occasional games on Sunday afternoons, but not before 1:30 PM. These younger teams will never practice on Sundays.

Also in keeping with Texas baseball custom, our high school team will not have a spring break. We expect high school players to be committed to the team from the first day of practice on January 18 through the end-of-season tournament (currently scheduled for Saturday, May 15, but subject to change for inclement weather).

Spring 2021 practice commences January 18 for high school players and February 1 for all other players. Even allowing for weather-related schedule changes, we expect that the spring season for all teams will conclude no later than May 31, 2021, with a target conclusion by May 15, 2021.

Costs

Players should anticipate the following fees and expenses for the Spring 2021 season. Please note that the board of directors and coaches of the Tomball Kings expect all high school players to make a significant financial contribution toward, and ideally to pay entirely, the cost of their spring baseball participation, through remunerative work during the course of the year. All directors and coaches are available to counsel varsity players as to opportunities and ways of helping their families in this regard.

Changes in relation to the Spring 2020 season

Due to higher facilities costs and a longer season, the facilities fee for high school has increased to $475 from $450 (a $25 increase) and players have one additional month of the coaching fee ($125).

There are no changes in costs for 15U players in relation to the Spring 2020 season, other than the purchase of an additional jersey. We did not field 12U and younger teams in the Spring 2020 season and thus have no point of comparison for those teams.

Explanation of fees

Uniform Fee

Depending on jersey size:
High school: from $132.00 to $156.00 per player.
15U and 12U: from $96.00 to $108.00 per player.
10U and 8U: from $60.00 to $68.00 per player.

The uniform fee is a one-time charge that covers the cost of Tomball Kings custom uniforms. For high school players it includes two game jerseys, one practice jersey, and one cap. For 15U and 12 players, it includes two game jerseys and one cap. For 10U and 8U players it includes one game jersey and one cap.

The Kings use durable, high-quality uniforms from Boombah to enable players to wear the same uniforms through multiple seasons.

Note: Players do not need to repurchase uniforms except due to growth or damage, or when advancing for the first time to high school play, so long as they continue to be available from our supplier.

Annual Program Fee

$20.00 per player.

The annual program fee is a one-time-per-year, administrative charge to cover general program expenses such as federal and state filings, data center expenses, insurance, and email services. The fee covers the period September 1 through August 31, each year. Players who have already paid this fee for the 2020-2021 academic year do not need to repeat this payment for the spring.

Facilities Fee

High school: $475.00 per player.
15U and 12U: $350.00 per player (includes $275.00 league fee for Spring Klein Baseball).
10U and 8U: $75.00 per player, plus league fees to be paid directly to Farm League ($209.00 for 10U; $179.00 for 8U).

The facilities fee is a one-time-per-season charge to cover practice field rental, home game or league expenses (as applicable), baseballs, first-aid kits, and similar items related to the fielding of the team. Above-cited fees are for the Spring 2021 season.

Coaching Fee

Varsity only: $125 per player-month, for four months.

The monthly coaching fee of $125.00 per player applies to high school players only and covers both high school coaches (i.e., the fee is divided between the coaches). The fee is due and payable monthly for each of the four months in the Spring 2021 season. 15U and younger teams utilize volunteer coaches and do not paying coaching fees.

Payment Methods

Players or their families may pay online for all Spring 2021 fees, via the Shop link on our website, or receive an invoice for electronic payment via our payment processor Square. High school players may request automatic, recurring, electronic payments via Square to cover coaching fees.

While not provided through the Kings program, players should also budget for baseball pants, belt, socks, and possibly stirrups, as set forth in the Tomball Kings uniform standards; a baseball glove; a regulation baseball bat; sliding shorts with protective cup; batting helmet of royal-blue color; turf shoes and cleats or spikes in Kings colors or black; and, batting gloves if desired. Catchers must provide their own properly-fitted gear and mit, with throat protector affixed to the mask. While not required, recommended safety equipment includes a mouthguard, heartguard, and C-Flap for the batting helmet.

High school players will need white game pants with blue piping. The Kings will coordinate orders to insure uniformity of color. 15U and younger players will wear white game pants. Game pants may be knickers or full length; for players that choose knickers, colors for stirrups or socks are set forth in the uniform standards.

10U and 8U players will need to purchase an inexpensive practice shirt or jersey of royal blue color. Team coaches will coordinate.

All players on high school and 15U teams will need a current sports physical (one completed within past year) prior to February 1, 2021. Forms will be available on Monday, January 18, 2021.

Note: bats and gloves in particular can be expensive items and must be a good fit for the player. Kings coaches are happy to advise on such items, prior to purchase.

Recycling Program

Baseball gear is sometimes outgrown while still in good or even excellent condition. Please look for opportunities to pass outgrown items on to younger players.

Practices

All teams will practice at The Farm League complex. High school will use Field 4. All other teams will use Field 3.

Regular practice days and times for high school players are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Prior to the commencement of league play, all other teams will have at least one fielding and one batting practice per week, 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, to be scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays, on a rotating basis among the age groups. The schedule will be adjusted as necessary once league play starts in order to keep the number of team events per week below three for players 15U and younger.

As a general rule, players of any age are welcome to use the batting cages or hitting nets adjacent to our practice fields during practices for any Kings team, provided that these facilities are not in use at the time for whatever teams happen to have scheduled practices on a given day.

Games

The high school team will play its home games at the Premier Baseball of Texas Sports Complex. All away games will be in the greater Houston area, with the exception of a possible state homeschool tournament in San Antonio April 15 through 17.

All other teams play their league games at either the Spring-Klein Baseball Association’s Rothwood baseball complex in Spring, the Magnolia Baseball Association’s fields in Magnolia, or at the Farm League complex. A possible end-of-season tournament may be in a different location, but in the general vicinity of Tomball. We anticipate that the 15U players will travel to League City for one game against a school opponent.
