Today marks the final game of the baseball season — and the end of an era — as Coaches Philip Wilkins and Jim Cason lead the Tomball Kings varsity baseball team one last time. The longtime coaching duo, who have guided homeschool athletes for 15 years and every season of the Kings' six-year history, will take the field together at 3:00 PM against Bo Porter Academy at the Premier Baseball of Texas Sports Complex.

To recognize their contributions, the Kings community has produced a video tribute featuring 26 messages from players, coaches, and alumni. The video — embedded below — reflects the influence Wilkins and Cason have had over the years in shaping the experience and growth of the athletes they’ve coached.

As the Kings take the field this afternoon, the game marks both the close of the season and the conclusion of a long-running coaching partnership. It’s a fitting moment to acknowledge the time, commitment, and leadership Wilkins and Cason have brought to the program.

The Kings are especially grateful for love and support that Autumn Wilkins and Docia Cason have provide Kings players and families over the years.

Wilkins was coaching junior high football for the Tomball Christian Warriors when he first met Cason, who had brought his sons, Jonah and Jordan, out to play as seventh- and sixth-graders, respectively. It wasn’t long before the two men were coaching together — a partnership that would span more than a decade across both football and baseball.

In 2014, Wilkins and Cason teamed up again — this time to launch the baseball program for the Tomball Christian Warriors, with Wilkins, a former standout at Tomball High School, serving as head coach. When the Tomball Kings program was founded in 2019, Wilkins became the team’s first varsity head coach, while Cason stepped in as outfield coach and director.

Over the course of his coaching career, Wilkins has amassed 156 varsity wins — and will look to add one more this afternoon.
