Tomball Kings cordially invites you to join us for spring tryouts for our high school, junior high, and elementary school programs. See times and locations, and register, below.

Tryout information

The Tomball Kings welcome new student-athletes to all of our athletic programs.

Registration is open for these baseball tryouts:

Please note that for high school and junior high players, the tryout dates set forth above are supplemental. We had initial tryouts for both age divisions in August. We nonetheless welcome new players to participate in the December tryouts. You may also schedule an individual tryout if you are unable to make the above dates.

We do not hold tryouts for track and field, but do evaluate track and field athletes during practices and recommend event participation accordingly.

Please understand that while many of our programs and classes are open to all student-athletes, eligibility for play on a Tomball Kings baseball roster is limited to homeschooled student-athletes. Please contact us if you have eligibility questions or need to schedule an individual tryout outside of our regular tryout schedule.

Prospective baseball players may wish to read our guide “How to make the most of your baseball tryout” as well as our physical fitness standards.

Tryouts are free of charge.

Tryout format

At each tryout we separate participants by age division, but we use an evaluation and grading system that is uniform across all ages, to help us track player development over time. We evaluate punctuality, baseball appearance and demeanor, focus and energy, general athleticism, throwing ability, infield and outfield defensive skills, and hitting. We reserve time toward the end of each tryout for separate evaluations of prospective pitchers and catchers. We grade each activity using a five-point scale and make qualitative notes, as well. Though player evaluations are the primary function of our tryouts, we will take time to share teaching points whenever possible.

Tryout results

Typically within 72 hours of a tryout’s conclusion, we will share our evaluations with each participant. We do not share actual, numeric grades from the player evaluations, but do provide a qualitative assessment along with one of two, definitive, tryout results. These results will be either (a) a qualified invitation to participate as a player in one of our age divisions or (b) our regrets that we are unable to extend an invitation at that particular moment in time.

The term “qualified invitation” means an invitation to join a Kings program that is predicated on certain terms, conditions, and understandings. These include player availability for team events as scheduled, timely payment of required fees, and compliance with program rules.
