Spring season 2022

The Tomball Kings will field spring-season 2022 baseball teams in the high school, 15U, 12U, 10U, and 8U divisions.

The high school division will offer interscholastic play for varsity and subvarsity rosters, with schedules featuring public and private school opponents from the Greater Houston area.

All other divisions will offer opportunities for league play either in the Spring Klein Baseball League (15U and 12U divisions) or the Farm League (10U and 8U divisions). Please see our Programs Guide for more complete information concerning our age divisions and seasonal priorities for each division.

Eligibility

Participation on all Kings rosters for the Spring 2022 season is by invitation only, based upon coaching evaluations from our open tryouts, an individually-scheduled tryout, or the Spring 2021 season. Maintenance of eligibility requires compliance with Tomball Kings program rules.

Players must be homeschooled in order to be on a Tomball Kings roster. Non-roster programs, such as classes and camps, may be open enrollment, subject to student compliance with Tomball Kings rules. Please read our eligibility guide for more complete information on eligibility for Tomball Kings game rosters.

Sports physical

We require an annual sports physical for all student athletes participating on a Tomball Kings game roster. We use the University Interscholastic League’s Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation form [PDF, 1.7 MB] for this purpose. This two-page form provides for a medical history and physical examination. Parents or legal guardians will complete the medical history in conjunction with the student-athlete. The student-athlete’s physician will complete the physical examination. These forms are due by January 15, 2022 for the Spring 2022 season. A sports physical completed after June 1, 2021 (e.g., one for the Fall 2021 football season) may serve as the basis for the physical examination with the concurrence of the student-athlete’s physician.

Registration

All players who receive and accept a roster invitation for a Tomball Kings Spring 2022 team should compete our Player Information Form and any related registration requirements. The form will be published after the extension and acceptance of roster invitations.

Spring calendar

Playing spring baseball with the Tomball Kings is a significant time commitment that requires accommodation of schedule changes due to inclement weather. We always schedule as far in advance as possible and promptly inform players of any schedule changes.

We operate in a youth and interscholastic baseball market that is among the most competitive anywhere. We expect players to be available to practice or play Monday through Saturday from the beginning to the end of the season. Additionally, players of 10U and 8U age may have games on Sunday afternoons or evenings commencing after 1:30 PM, and the possibility of a Sunday morning playoff game at the end of the season. None of our teams practices on Sunday.

Practice-start dates for Spring 2022 are:

  • January 17 for high school;
  • February 1 for 10U and 8U; and,
  • February 22 for 15U and 12U.

Barring extraordinary circumstances, the spring season will end on or before May 31 for all divisions. Families of players on a Kings roster should not schedule summer vacations to commence prior to June 6, 2022, to allow a buffer for protracted rainfall or extraordinary circumstances that may cause a delay in season conclusions.

High school players should normally expect five team events per week. All prospective high school players should read our spring-season schedule notes for high school players.

15U and younger players should normally expect three team events per week.

We outline our Spring 2022 tryout schedule below and are open to new players for the Spring 2022 season. To register for a tryout, please read our tryout guide and complete our tryout registration form. All times are 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. • High school: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
  • Pre-high-school: Tuesdays and Fridays, 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, prior to commencement of league play, with elimination of the Friday practice after league play commences.

We may make adjustments to the practice schedule on account of game conflicts.

Players in the 15U, 12U, 10U, and 8U divisions will be expected to arrive one hour before game times for batting practice, additional skills work, and pre-game warm-ups.

Game schedules

We expect to receive game schedules for the Spring Klein League in early March and for the Farm League in early February. We will post the initial high school schedules to MaxPreps when complete, which normally takes place in early January.

Other activities

Baseball Performance training for high school players continues through Friday, January 14, 2022. If you are coming off of fall sports or other activities and would like to join the remaining months of Baseball Performance training, please email us.

Every Saturday morning we hold speed classes at Spring Creek Park for all divisions, priced at $10 per class on a drop-in basis. Speed classes will continue through the middle of January.

Explanation of fees

Uniform Fee

Depending on jersey size:
High school: from $132.00 to $156.00 per player.
15U and 12U: from $96.00 to $112.00 per player.
10U and 8U: from $60.00 to $68.00 per player.

The uniform fee is a one-time charge that covers the cost of Tomball Kings custom uniforms. For high school players it includes two game jerseys, one practice jersey, and one cap. For 15U and 12U players, it includes two game jerseys and one cap. For 10U and 8U players it includes one game jersey and one cap.

The Kings use durable, high-quality uniforms from Boombah to enable players to wear the same uniforms through multiple seasons.

Note: Players do not need to repurchase uniforms except due to growth or damage, or when advancing for the first time to high school play, so long as they continue to be available from our supplier.

Annual Program Fee

$20.00 per player.

The annual program fee is a one-time-per-year, administrative charge to cover general program expenses such as federal and state filings, data center expenses, insurance, and email services. The fee covers the period September 1 through August 31, each year.

Facilities Fee

The facilities fee is a one-time-per-season charge to cover practice field rental, home game, tournament, or league expenses (as applicable), baseballs, first-aid kits, and similar items related to the fielding of the team.

League Fee

League fees are set by the respective leagues. For 10U and 8U players, league fees are paid directly to Farm League.

Coaching Fee

15U: $50 per player, for the entire spring season.

The coaching fee of $50.00 per player applies to 15U players only who are playing spring baseball at Spring Klein and covers the entire spring season.

High school: $125 per player-month, for four months.

The monthly coaching fee of $125.00 per player applies to high school players only and covers both high school coaches (i.e., the fee is divided between the coaches). The fee is due and payable monthly for each of the four months in the Spring 2022 season.

Players in the 12U, 10U, and 8U divisions do not pay coaching fees.

Payment Methods

Except for the 10U and 8U league fees that are to be paid directly to Farm League via its website, you may choose whether to pay spring-season fees via our website or else to receive an invoice from us that allows for online payment.

While not provided through the Kings program, players should also budget for baseball pants, belt, socks, and possibly stirrups, as set forth in the Tomball Kings uniform standards; a baseball glove; a regulation baseball bat; sliding shorts with protective cup; batting helmet of royal-blue color; turf shoes and cleats or spikes in Kings colors or black; sunglasses; and, batting gloves if desired. Catchers must provide their own properly-fitted gear and mit, with throat protector affixed to the mask. Recommended safety equipment includes a mouthguard, heartguard, and C-Flap for the batting helmet. By rule, high school players must use a helmet with a C-Flap.

High school players will need white game pants with blue piping. 15U and younger players will wear white game pants. Game pants may be knickers or full length; for players that choose knickers, colors for stirrups or socks are set forth in the uniform standards.

10U and 8U players will need to purchase an inexpensive practice shirt or jersey of royal blue color. Team coaches will coordinate.

Note: bats and gloves in particular can be expensive items and must be a good fit for the player. Kings coaches are happy to advise on such items, prior to purchase.

We have composed this Spring 2022 program guide based upon the best information available to us at the time of publication, but reserve the right to make changes prior to the tryout date for any particular age division. Should we make any such changes, we will email an announcement to our general email list, which shall include all tryout registrants.
