Pitching and throwing program

Year-round, small-group classes for Tomball Kings players in the high school, junior high, 12U, and 10U divisions.

Pitching and throwing program

In conjunction with pitching coach Kevin Beirne, the Tomball Kings offer small-group classes to help players avoid arm injuries and improve their pitching and throwing mechanics.

Classes meet weekly for an hour. Each student has a regular class time. We form classes of three to four students at a time, scheduled by mutual consent of the participants.

About Coach Beirne

Kevin Beirne is a former Major League Pitcher from The Woodlands, Texas. He is currently a coach with the National Pitching Association, and an Associate Scout for the Kansas City Royals organization.

Coach Beirne is the son of Jim Beirne, who played professional football with the Houston Oilers and San Diego Chargers from 1968-1976. He was a highly recruited high school football wide receiver and baseball outfielder. In 1992, he was drafted in the 42d round by the Cincinnati Reds. He opted to attended Texas A&M on a football scholarship from 1992-1995, and was a member of two Southwest Conference Championship teams. While at A&M, he also played baseball and was drafted in 1995 in the 11th round by the Chicago White Sox. He made his Major League debut with the White Sox in 2000 at Yankee Stadium.

Coach Beirne also played in the Major League for the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Los Angeles Dodgers before ending up in Japan, where he played four seasons under Bobby Valentine.

Late in his professional career, Kevin began working with renowned pitching coach Dr. Tom House and became involved in the research and teaching philosophies based on optimal bio-mechanics to prevent injury and increase velocity. Kevin is currently a Level 5 Certified National Pitching Association Coach in The Woodlands, and specializes in training rotational athletes utilizing the NPA’s science-based protocols.

Punctuality

Please be on time for each class. Late arrivals are disruptive to the class and counterproductive for the student-athlete who is late.

Should you ever need to miss or be late for a class, please notify Coach Beirne as soon as you know. Please show respect for his time and effort as you would for any other Kings coach.

Commitment

Please commit to regular attendance for at least a season at a stretch. Missing classes will deny students information, knowledge, skills, or experiences that they will need as athletes. Regular attendance will produce the best results and greatest advancement for each student.
