Important update: Tomball Kings baseball coaching news
Head coach Philip Wilkins and his son, Kings co-captain Owen Wilkins, on the field together this spring.

Dear Tomball Kings families and supporters,

We would like to share some important updates regarding the leadership of the Tomball Kings baseball program.

Honoring Our Coaches

Coach Philip Wilkins has announced that this spring season will be his final as Head Baseball Coach for the Kings. With his youngest son, Owen, graduating and moving on to college football at Arizona Christian University, and with a grandchild on the way, Coach Wilkins feels it is the right time to pass the baton. His impact on our program has been extraordinary, and we are deeply grateful for his leadership, dedication, and mentorship over the years.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Coach Jim Cason, who will step down after this season. Coach Cason has faithfully served as a coach in homeschool athletics for fifteen years and a Kings board member for six, always embodying the spirit of the Kings community. We also recognize and thank Autumn Wilkins and Docia Cason for their invaluable support of our players and families.

Welcoming Our New Leadership

We are excited to announce that Coach Steven Ziegler (“Coach Z”) will step into the role of Head Varsity Coach. Coach Z brings nearly two decades of high-level baseball coaching experience, having founded and led Toros Baseball and managing nationally ranked teams at the highest levels of competition. Over the course of his coaching career, Coach Z has helped develop more than forty players who advanced to play college baseball, with five of his former players reaching professional baseball. His passion for player development, attention to detail, and commitment to building strong teams make him a tremendous addition to our program.

We are also pleased to welcome Coach Tyler Taylor, who will assist Coach Ziegler and lead player development initiatives across all age groups. A standout at Klein Collins High School and a former collegiate player at Ranger College and Texas A&M–Corpus Christi, Coach Taylor brings valuable experience and enthusiasm to the Kings family.

Both coaches are active year-round in advanced player development with highly regarded baseball clubs and bring a wealth of experience to help our athletes grow on and off the field.

Looking Ahead

In the days ahead, Coach Ziegler will be reaching out to high school players and participating with Coach Wilkins in our season-end meetings to map out off-season development plans.

We are grateful to all of you — our families and supporters — who make this program special. With gratitude for the foundation that has been laid, and excitement for what lies ahead, we look forward to continuing to grow and excel together.

Thank you for your support of the Tomball Kings!

Sincerely,
John Harris
