Fuel for college athletes. And a lesson for younger ones.

Owen Wilkins '25 is off to Arizona Christian for football training camp. He was kind enough to share a photo of this morning's breakfast.
As your coaches, I know we harp on you about eating to add muscle mass. Owen's breakfast this morning is what we mean by a reasonable amount and balance of food for a meal: plenty of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber, spanning a full range of macro-nutrients.
After sleep, nutrition is the next most important ingredient in athletic development.
Owen is competing for playing time against thirteen other players at his position. He cannot afford to miss any opportunity to gain every possible competitive advantage.
Our high school rosters are smaller, but the principles are the same. Everything we can do to gain a competitive advantage, we must do.
Every high school in our area has gotten the message: they have their athletes on year-round training and nutrition programs. We have to not only match but exceed their efforts.
