Baseball class begins next week

Prepare for spring baseball with our fall baseball class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, at Farm League Park. Class commences Thursday, September 5, 2024.

Join the Tomball Kings baseball class on Tuesdays and Thursdays this fall, 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, at Farm League Park, 19717 Stuebner Airline Rd, Spring TX 77379. Registration is open.

This class is open to all, but strongly recommended for all Tomball Kings players, especially those in the high school and junior high programs.

Tuition for the entire fall session is $99 for the first student from each household and $49 for each participating sibling.

The curriculum will span defensive skills and assignments, hitting, pitching and throwing, base-running, and physical and mental readiness. A brief list of our topics includes:

  • Warm-up routines for performance readiness and injury prevention
  • Proper arm care and band work
  • Stretches and exercises to improve rotational force
  • Long toss for improved throwing velocity
  • Proper throwing progressions, techniques, arm slots, and different types of throws
  • Drills to improve hand-eye coordination and fielding range
  • Fielding techniques for balls on the ground and in the air
  • Footwork and transitions from fielding to throwing
  • Base running, including "hard nineties," lead-offs, steals, sliding, and running lanes
  • Rules of the game, particularly those that are often misunderstood, such as infield fly, interference, and obstruction
  • Run downs
  • Double plays
  • Situational awareness
  • Defensive responsibilities depending on game situations
  • On-field communications and demeanor
  • Dugout communications and responsibilities
  • Approaching and working within the batter's box
  • Non-verbal communications
  • Bunting and bunt coverage
  • Mental preparation, readiness, and resets
  • Nutrition and sleep
  • Pitcher fielding responsibilities
  • Cutoffs and relays
  • Handling success, disappointments, and relations with coaches, game officials, and opponents
  • Responsible use of devices and accounts
  • Appearance, dress, and making best impressions
  • Goal-setting and pursuit
  • Athletic mindset, sportsmanship, receptiveness to instruction, and being a great teammate
  • Using the Dominican game of vitella for improved throwing, fielding, and hitting

This class will help us win games this spring. Please attend as many classes as you can. You may leave early for football practice or other fall sports commitments. See our program guide for more information.

Bring your baseball gear and at least sixty-four ounces of water to each class. Attire will vary from shorts to full baseball attire, depending upon the curriculum for a particular class. Instructors will notify you in advance. Wear shorts to the first class.

Also bring a jump rope, three tennis balls, and a notebook and pen to each class.
